Test procedures of the ferry called Cengiz Kocatoros, the 8th of the 15 new passenger ferries built by Özata Shipyard for İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, have started.
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality united the passenger ferry carrying the name of the unforgettable football player “Cengiz Kocatoros”, known as “Gode Cengiz”, with İzmir Bay on the 103rd anniversary of Karşıyaka Sports Club. The 9th ferry to be added to the fleet will carry the name of Gürsel Aksel, the legend of Göztepe.
The 8th of the 15 new passenger ferries built by Özata Shipyard for İzmir Metropolitan Municipality was completed and brought to the city. Test procedures of the ferry called “Cengiz Kocatoros”, known as “Gode Cengiz, the legend football player of Karşıyaka Sports Club, have started. The name was written on the hull of the ferry on September 5, his birthday, and it will start operating soon.
Gürsel Aksel on January 1
Name of Gürsel Aksel, who wore the uniform of Göztepe Sports Club for 17 years and was the captain of the team for 11 years, will be given to the 9th ferry on January 1, his birthday, again. The next ferry is planned to be named after Sait Altınordu who is identified with Altınordu football club. Then, the ferries that will carry the names of Vahap Özaltay and Metin Oktay will meet İzmir Bay.
Who is Cengiz Kocatoros?
Born in 1943, known as “Gode Cengiz”, Cengiz Kocatoros played football in Karşıyaka Sports Club for many years. Like many of the stars of his time, he was a student of Karşıyaka High School and attracted attention with his strong structure and header goals. He was applauded from the first day he started playing football and also shone out with his personality, too. He experienced the pride of carrying the national uniform. He was a great football player. He passed away on June 23, 1985 due to brain hemorrhage, when he was very young.
