Özata Shipyard delivered M/F Sait Altınordu


Sait Altınordu, 10th of the 15 passenger ships built by Özata Shipyard for Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, arrived at Izmir.

The 10th of the 15 new passenger ships ordered by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality from Özata Shipyard in Yalova and named by Izmir residents, was completed and brought to the Bay. The final checks for the ship was completed in the shipyard in Yalova, and it will bear the name of the legendary captain of Altınordu, Sait Altınordu. A ceremony will be held in Konak Pier at 11:00 on May 6, Friday for Izmir’s new ship. Along with Aziz Kocaoğlu, Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the prominent members of Altınordu community will also attend the ceremony.

 The legends becoming immortal

 In the previous months, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality put into service the ships named after the legendary captain of Göztepe, Gürsel Aksel, and the prominent resident of Karşıyaka, (Gode) Cengiz Kocatoros, which have been given as a result of a survey participated by Izmir residents. In this survey with over 500,000 votes, the highest number of votes was obtained by the name ‘1881-Atatürk’. Until today, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has put into service 9 ships completed and has given them the names Çakabey, 9 Eylül, 1881 Atatürk, Soma 301, Dario Moreno, Attila İlhan, Foça, Cengiz Kocatoros and Gürsel Aksel. The ferryboats delivered were given the names Hasan Tahsin and Ahmet Piriştina, which again received the highest number of votes in the survey.

The legend of Altınordu 

Sait Altınordu, one of biggest masters of Turkish football, continued playing until 43. He played in Altınordu team for 27 years straight, and crowned this success by coaching. He identified himself with his club to such a degree that he even took “Altınordu” as his surname. During his long football life, he turned down the transfer offers with astronomical figures from big clubs such as Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray. He lived as an Altınordu resident and passed away as an Altınordu resident.
